He'd seen her on and off and they'd fallen into something comfortable. It wasn't exactly a friendship, he didn't think. They didn't do drinks, didn't even really chat much. They just met and exchanged pleasantries enough to not be rude, and then they wound up in bed. It was really easy and it filled the need he had for contact. He imagined it filled her needs as well. If it didn't, she wouldn't keep coming 'round.

He'd sent one simple text to her today at lunch. Three little words. Tonight at mine? After work he'd swung past the shop and had bought some wine and cheese and a lovely bit of hard sausage. Just in case they broke routine and had a bite.

Maybe one day he ought to invite her out for dinner, John thought. But then again, maybe not. Maybe this was enough.
